A horoscope has got 12 houses, every house has got his own meaning. The first house tells you where the ascedant is. The ascedant is caculated with the time of your birth and  your birtdplace.

The ascendant of a given geographic location at a particular point in time is the point on the zodiac which is ascending over the Eastern horizon as viewed from that place and time.
